Ryder Cup Round Up

Fresh off the Olympics and Matt Kuchar's bronze medal has me feeling awfully patriotic. The next chance for American golf to reassert itself is, of course, the Ryder Cup. The Ryder Cup pins the US against Europe. It's one of the rowdiest events of the year. The tournament will be on American soil this year in Minnesota. Eight players will be locked in due to their accumulation of Ryder Cup points. U.S. captain, Davis Love III, will then have 4 captain's picks to complete the roster. With the Ryder Cup a little more than a month away, let's take a look at where things stand.

1. Dustin Johnson

#2 in the world and FedEx standings. Will likely be the top ranked player to participate in the Ryder Cup when October rolls around. Big-time name with big-time game.

2. Jordan Spieth

In what many have considered a disappointing year, Spieth is still the world #3 and #5 in the FedEx standings. Anchoring your team with Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth is pretty damn good. It's no Tiger, Stricker, and Phil but speaking of Phil…

3. Phil Mickelson

At 46, Phil is still crushing the tour. Having a sneaky awesome year. Has the most Ryder Cup appearances for any American and is top 10 in most points.

4. Jimmy Walker

PGA Championship winner has been flying under the radar for a few years. These boots are made for walkin'.

5. Brooks Koepka

Koepka should be a fixture on these teams for years to come. Coming off injury, he has two top-10 finishes, including a top-5 at the PGA Championship.

Hopefully he'll be joined by fellow Seminole, Daniel Berger.

6. Brandt Snedeker

Former FedEx cup winner. Playing great this season but hasn't had the big-time wins… yet.

7. Zach Johnson

One of the more vanilla players on tour but rock solid as always. A team of Johnson and Furyk would lull the Euro opponents into a false sense of security.

8. Patrick Reed

Need a fat guy on America's team.

On the Outside Looking In

J.B Holmes- I'll be honest, I hope I'm not watching JB Holmes don American apparel come October.

Bubba Watson- Can't have him doing this.

Rickie Fowler- Two top-10s since being cut at the Masters. Three cuts in same span. Pass.

Matt Kuchar- Fresh off a bronze…

Potential Captain's Picks

Hey, Davis Love III, I'd be happy to help you make your picks. Here are the guys you should be considering.

4 Picks

Jim Furyk- Wrist surgery sidelined Jimmy early in the year but he has come on like the legend he is. "The Grinder" aka "Mr. 58" has been on fire for the last month with 2 top-10s in the last 2 tournaments. SIgn him up.

Matt Kuchar- I've been critical of Kuchar in the past, but the guy loves playing for his country. You win a medal in the Olympics, you deserve a spot.

Daniel Berger- It's no secret I'm a big Berger guy but rightfully so. The kid is crushing it this year and really making a name for himself.

Tiger Woods- A boy can dream…
